How Social Media can improve Business Branding

Posted on January 8, 2013 by Adam

Almost every business has a social media presence, with Facebook and Twitter being the usual preferred outlet. Unfortunately most businesses social media pages are boring, bland and self-fulfilling and built with advertising in mind. Why would any potential customers or random browsing users want to subscribe, follow or have that feed coming up on their screen on a daily basis? In order to have a successful social media presence it is crucial to maintain an interesting and entertaining outlook. Modern day consumers are good at avoiding the fake personas and typical company images; consumers tend to shun these and reward the authentic.
Here are some great ways to avoid lame business branding.

Be real, Be Honest

Honesty is the best policy! People love it and want to talk to real people behind real brands – Not big Bad Corporate Logos. Honesty and being real in social media can mean a lot of different things to many different people. Here at SocialGO we believe that it means letting your personality shine, engaging with people, being cute or funny and sometimes putting it out there. People will always prefer fun, exciting and real businesses and are far more likely to engage with your social media presence. Even if someone tweets your brand something funny, don’t be afraid to retweet it or share it. People also appreciate humility, admitting mistakes and saying you will do something better about it goes along way towards being authentic as well. Just remember its important to show your customers that there is real people behind the company.

Engage, then engage some more

Your audience wants to know that you care about them, one great way to show your care is by listening. And you can achieve this by engaging with them.  When using social media, it can be satisfying when you create a post and someone benefits from it. Engage a response from your users can go along way. Social Media is also used by businesses to provide customer service as we do over here at SocialGO. It’s a great medium to respond to your customers queries which in turn builds a good brand.

Know your audience

Having a huge friend list, like or followers doesn’t mean anything if you’re disconnected from them. The aim of the game is to get to know your audience, ask them what they think about topics, or decision you’re going to make. Show them their opinion matters and provide feedback and replies to their engagement.

Be Interesting

As mentioned previously, social media is a form of media just like Tv, Movies and Magazines. If it’s not entertaining, informational or intriguing nobody is going to be interested. You need to create and share quality content if you want people to follow and engage with you. If you have expertise in something, share tips, ideas and info on that topic in an interesting and fun way. Use your potential to create great posts.
