How to use Hootsuite

Posted on February 8, 2013 by Lawrence

Being active on multiple social media outlets is very common, and in some cases for businesses, even crucial. But it can get quite time consuming and disorderly if handled inefficiently. After all, it’s difficult to find time to update each social network individually.

But where there’s a will, there’s a way… using an app, of course! There are a range of apps dedicated to making this an easier process. We here at SocialGO are fans of one in particular: Hootsuite. This friendly little owl is very popular indeed, so here are the basics to one way of making your social networking a little bit simpler.

Hootsuite is basically a central hub for you to organise and manage all your social media outlets. You can simultaneously be logged into all your social media accounts on one interface, so that you can read and post through all your different outlets at the same time. Setting different periods for the stream to auto-refresh also means you’re up-to-date on that last tweet or Instagram pic posted just a minute ago. This makes overseeing all your different accounts much easier, and ensures you don’t miss out on anything.

What also makes using one these apps time-efficient is the ability to schedule posts. Say for example your business has just launched a new product, and you want to make certain you make that information available to all your followers over the weekend. All you have to do is schedule that same post to go via all your social networks all at one once. Not only is this ideal for when you don’t have access to your accounts, but it also means you can dedicate just a short amount of time each day to sort out all your social media posting, and you won’t have to worry about it later.

What I’m really fond of in particular is the super useful feature of auto-scheduling! This handy little tool with automatically schedule your post to go up at that social network’s most popular time! Businesses will find this particularly convenient in expanding the reach of their posts. And even if you’re not posting for a business, who doesn’t want that new pic of their dog doing something cute to be seen by as many people as possible?

This is just a brief glimpse of the capabilities of Hootsuite. There is a lot more utility behind the app, and it can certainly make social networking much more efficient for you and your business. Who doesn’t love a good hoot?
